Do you have a good idea for something that you haven't got around to doing yet? Learning 3D modeling? Doing a home improvement project? Starting a journal? Don't let your dreams be dreams. Just do it! God made us to be members of the body of the church. When He gave us different gifts, He did it so we may complement and serve each other, just like different body parts have different purposes but support the whole. Maybe Romans 12 refers more to spiritual gifts like prophecy and service, but I find indulging in my hobbies increases my opportunities to help, teach, and provide for those around me. At the same time, don't get so wrapped up in your own goals that you neglect the people around you. I didn't have the best relationship with my mom, but I tried to be a good daughter to her, even if phone calls and lunch dates were so draining. Maybe some people would consider There's a lot of grumbling out there about wasting time, or basically anything that conflicts with working on what you want to work on more. The last instance of this I saw was a headline about how much of your life you waste driving. It's funny because the ancients may think we SAVE a lot of time driving! Or maybe not because they didn't experience urban sprawl and suburbanization yet. IDK. But anyway, I thought about all the time I "wasted" on being a good daughter to my mom. We didn't have the best relationship, but I tried to call regularly and schedule weekly lunch dates anyway. I would come away so drained and hurt maybe the whole day would be wasted afterward, so it was certainly something that stood in the way of using my time on work and hobbies. But when she passed, suddenly all that time allotted every week was regained. Do I get more projects done now than I did then? Maybe. And do the projects I work on eventually give me a chance to help others (most recently using my website's code as an example for a friend in a webdev class).
